Bearing Fence
The bearing fence enables you to mark a line parallel to a curved edge. The bearings have a nylon spacer between them and run along the edge you are referencing. There are 3 spacers included with the fence so you can set the fence up to suit the thickness of the work peice.
The bearing fence plate is 8mm delrin, 66mm x 19mm and fits all the scribers apart from the 2 in 1 FB Scriber.
When using the bearing fence you have to be mindful of keeping the pencil square to the edge as there is only 1 point of contact. This makes the standard bearing fence a little more challenging to use than the deluxe bearing fence but with a bit of practice you’ll soon get used to it.
Both the bearing fence and deluxe bearing fence can be used for scribing furniture.
You can set the fence up with a bearing at both ends.
This gives almost frictionless movement.
With this set up it does mean there has to be at least a 12mm gap (the bearing diameter) between the 2 surfaces you are scribing.
There is a 2mm step between the bearing and the fence base. If you want to increase the step you could purchase wider bearings (the bearings supplied are 12mm OD, 4mm ID and 4mm thick). A 14mm OD bearing would give a step of 3mm.
