Marking Gauge Block in panel gauge mode

When used as a panel gauge remove the bar bolted to the base of the block so that the block runs on the rebate when using the 20mm slot.

You can use varous beam widths by adjusting the length of the clamping plate bolts.

You can use your tooley park scriber for fine adjustment or simply fix a pencil into the end of the beam and adjust stick out using the clamping plate on the block.

You can draw a line parallel to a curved edge using bearings which bolt to the base of the block.

You can also bolt or screw on auxillary fences to the block for different applications.

The aluminium beam doesn’t fit in the 20mm slot so if you wish to use the bearings with the versatility of the aluminium beam you can make a 20mm wooden beam with the end reduced to 19mm. The aluminium beam can then be bolted to the wooden beam.

If you want to use a wider beam you can use threaded bar to expand the clamping depth.

Note how the spring is sitting on a nut and washer. Move the nut and washer up and down to adjust the spring tension.

When using 20mm wooden beams there are 3 options for fixing the beam in the 20mm slot.

For most applications the 20mm slot is more suitable for using wooden beams.

The 1″ slot is predominantly designed to hold the aluminium beam although you can make up 1″ wooden beams to fit the 1″ slot if you prefer thicker beams.
